As Monon puts a new air conditioning system on top of the Civic Center at 400 N. Market St., it will include a heating system.
Although the boilers in the basement are still function, it would cost $6,000 to $8,000 to replace them, Clerk-Treasurer Tim Brown told the Town Council members at their Wednesday meeting.
It will cost $6,000 or less to have the dual heating and air conditioning unit, he said.
The current air conditioner leaks over the vault area from the bank that originally occupied the building.
Brown said that Monon Township and the Monon Chamber of Commerce have each pledged $1,000 to the project.
Tri-Kappa has pledged $200, as has the Modern Homemakers club, he added.
The Council also briefly discussed whether Monon should be raising the rental fees on the Civic Center and on the shelters and log cabin in the park.
However, they took no action on that.
Town Superintendent Tony Rodgers said that the flooding problems on Indiana 16 near the Vanguard National Trailer Corporation are because water is not flowing to the back of the company’s building and into the White County drainage tile to the south.
The problem could be as simple as a plugged drain tile or the need for a new drain tile, but the matter needs more investigation, Rodgers said.
Town Marshall Roger Young said that the town will resume having abandoned cars towed after he finds a new wrecker service to tow the cars.
